We have added information on what to bring and recreational park passes, as well as updated the schedule of events!

We are staying at the National Historic Landmark, Timberline Lodge, on the south side of Mt Hood, about 60 miles from Portland Oregon. It is located in the Mt Hood National Forest and is visited by almost 2 million people every year. The lodge was built in the 1930’s by the Works Progress Administration and was dedicated by President Franklin D Roosevelt on September 28, 1937, and opened to the public in February 1938. It is located at the 5,060 foot elevation and boasts the longest ski season in the US. It was mostly built by hand, using regional materials collected on site, including native timber and stone. Timberline Lodge was completed very quickly in 15 months.  The Magic Mile Chairlift opened within the first year and ascended to 7,000 feet and was the first chairlift in Oregon and the second in North America.

Timberline Lodge was declared a National Historic Landmark in December 1977 by the US Department of Interior as the finest example of WPA mountain architecture. They celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2012.

There is so much to see and do in the Mt Hood area, come and stay longer to see it all! Hood River is just around the mountain and is the windsurfing capital of the world. There is a wonderful Native American Museum and resort in Warm Springs, where it almost never rains. Ski Bowl East has over 20 activities such as a bungee tower, disc golf, horseback riding, hiking trails, alpine slide, zip lines, Malibu Raceway, volleyball, and many more. You could stay two weeks and not see it all!
